  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    U.S. internationals Tim Weah and Weston McKennie started for Juventus on Monday as the defeated Verona 2-0 in Serie A action. Weah lined up at right back and McKennie as an attacking midfielder, the American duo helped see the earn a crucial three points in their chase for top-four in the domestic Italian league.

    Juventus broke the deadlock after a dominant first 70-plus minutes, with their constant pressure paying off with 18 minutes to spare. Bursting in from the left side of the pitch, Andrea Cambiaso drilled a ball across the six-yard box to find the boot of Khephren Thuram, who fired home for the lead in the 72nd minute. Then, in the 89th minute, Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners added a second from close range to put the match to bed.

    Juventus now sit fourth in Serie A after the win, two points clear of fifth place Lazio and just six points out of first place Inter Milan.

    McKennie and Weah both logged 60 minutes in the match and subbed off in the second half. Both Americans are expected to be a part of Mauricio Pochettino's upcoming CONCACAF Nations League semifinal squad, with a roster expected to be announced in the next two weeks.

    For the on Monday, Weah locked down his defensive flank by keeping a clean sheet while managing 62 touches on the ball. He completed five passes into the final third, and made five defensive recoveries as well.

    McKennie, meanwhile, was lights-out in the midfield with an 83 percent passing percentage with five touches in the opposition box as well.
